National Poetry Writing Month, Day 11, April 11th

Water falling from the sky

She has never seen
rain. Raised in the desert, she
fears the heat of the
sun; has never owned a coat.

Shellphone

Old Neptune has seen
changes come and go, quick-slow
but none like this! Smart
mermaids no longer listen
to sea shells, but mobile phones.

These are two Tankas, the theme for today’s prompt. The second one was written years ago and published in a local collection entitled Getting a Word in Edgeways, edited by Bryan Ricketts, 1997.
